And yet, despite movers’ willingness and readiness to aid you to the best of their abilities, there are certain household possessions which they will refuse to relocate for you due to legal, ethical or safety reasons. Each professional moving company has a special list of such non-allowable items which you are advised to request before you start packing your house.

These “no-no” items for your back loading removalist can be roughly divided into 3 categories:

 Hazardous materials:

The law forbids the mover of your choice from transporting any flammable, corrosive or explosive items -they may present major risks to the people involved, to your or the company’s property, or to the environment as well.

Pets and plants:

Under no circumstances are pets allowed to be transported inside a moving trailer – air conditions there are bad and temperatures can quickly reach extreme values. This leaves the much safer option of relocating your pets by yourself – either by taking them in your car or on the plane with you.

As far as you your plants go, it is illegal for moving companies to transport them on moves longer than 150 miles. If this is your case, think of alternative ways to handle their transportation yourself. For shorter relocation trips, ask your mover whether they will be willing to do it, and if yes, under what conditions. Be mindful of the extensive preparations of your plants before the moving day so that they survive the trip to your new home. But more importantly, think about the well-being of your plants or trees – if there is a good chance that they won’t make it during the long haul, consider donating them to local schools, nursing homes or hospitals where they will continue to fill people’s hearts with joy.

Irreplaceable items by your back loading removalist:

There are always possessions of extreme (or sentimental) value that should be handled with utmost care. They may include, but are not limited to: Personal documents (marriage licenses, passports, wills, insurance documents, birth certificates, Social Security cards, financial statements, tax.
